Oh! Azman Mokhtar

Unfortunately for Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi, it is people like Khazanah Nasional Bhd managing director Tan Sri Azman Mokhtar who gives his Government a bad name.

Instead of playing his role effectively to attract investments to Malaysia, he seems to be doing things in the contrary.

One example is his recent statement that Malaysia is going to face a shortage of electricity in 2012. This statement, plucked from the air I suppose, has far-reaching effect. It can instil fear among foreign investors who are seeking to have long-term investments in Malaysia.

At the Regional Eisenhower Fellowship Conference in Kuala Lumpur last week, Azman had said the "structural problems" in the power supply industry could cause the nation to experience a power shortage in 2012, and the collapse of national electricity utility, Tenaga Nasional Bhd.

In actual fact, the current 42 per cent reserve will rise to 47% next year with the commissioning of a new independent power producer (IPP) in Jimah, Negri Sembilan.

It would have been wiser for Azman to have checked with the Energy Commission before making such a statement.

If he is so worried about TNB, he should get it to reduce operating costs and act like a company which needs to practise financial prudence. But this is the same fellow who approved the 100% salary increase for TNB CEO Dato' Seri Che Khalib Mohamad Noh. Apparently, despite the public uproar, Che Khalib still managed to get a 50% pay rise. That, I have to check.

I congratulate Dato' Shaziman Abu Mansor, the Minister of Energy, Water and Communication for taking Azmman to task.

ashraf, i have to disagree with u on this one. azman mokhtar is not such a bad fella. he was probably fed with the wrong info provided by the shit heads who swamp all over him when the fourth floor boys started to meddle in khazanah. one of them is a very pro-singapore indian chap who actually tried to stab him in the back at every corner. heard najib's ppl are all now itchy to terajang this guy out. please check on this info before condemming azman. if i am wrong, then by all means, hantam dia sampai lumat la, ok? cheers.

Salam Ashraf,
I suspect his statement is a precursor to some "justifications" for Khazanah's recommendation for TNB's substantial capex for the next few years... we've seen his "recommendation" for 100% pay hike for his buddy Che Khalib, and he got 50% when all the staffs at TNB only managed single digit raise... this young Tan Sri sounds and acts like the investment bankers at Lehman Bros and the likes who got away with millions and left the market and get the tax payers & people in the street to clean up the sh**... we have too many people like him in Khazanah. First thing Najib should do as minister in MoF is to overhaul the management of Khazanah... get rid of the sh**heads! And he has NOT been doing that yet... dah jadi bubur susahlah!

Sounds like this is a prelude to liberalise our electricity service provider.

No longer we need to rely solely on TNB ie TNB will no longer be a monopoly anymore if other service provider is allowed in Malaysia.

This would bring competition, tariffs set at market prices...

Get ready for this soon....

bro,
some people like to play God, some luv to be jack of all trades while others would pretend to be wise guys.

during his tenure with salomon smith barney, azman did not write anything favouring the malaysian economy except his forecast for some conglomerates.

seldom did he place malaysian economy on a good posting.

btw, is he also advising najib on how to manage our economy?
