Tun M: Sime Darby Board must be held responsible for losses

The Board of Directors of Sime Darby Berhad must take responsibility for the RM2.03 billion ringgit losses inccured by the group.

Former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said the Board had fiduciary duties to shareholders and therefore, could not claim ignorance to the events that led to the massive losses.

Such an excuse, he said, did not make sense, as he himself was aware of Sime Darby's losses from as early as 2007.

Dr Mahathir said while the Group Chief Executive was responsible for the losses, the Board of Directors should also be held liable.

“If it had happened in another country, the Board would have resigned by now”, he said.

Dr Mahathir said this in an interview with TV3 this morning.

It shouldn't be zoomed into the Board onlu. It shall include the divisional management who proposed and execute the project. The Group Strategy and Business also should be held responsible and accountable.

...anywhere we go, small people always get squashed...I have no time to care anymore - be the government or the management of any company - all the same - they have criminal minds - big or small - politicians are the worst kind.

Shall I keep on repeating myself over and over again? What happen in the managerial level will not make much different to the small people - nasi dah jadi bubur - we are deep in corruption everywhere

The small employees answered to their superiors, the superiors answering to the call of their superiors, the superiors answered to the boards, the board answered to the government consist of politicians who think they are so smart and invincible. The politician have entourages, their entourages feed them power and these entourages need their habuan! Where does it end when the country is is govern this way and they forget all these people I mentioned are all the employees of the country and the people and when there is no religious value in each and everyone of us, death and punishment is far away, then what can I say, take a seat on the stone by the sea and let things passes by...after all what this has got to do with me? We sunk low or just floating by...
